Radical Sportscars out in force for NZSCRC Round 3
Round 3 of the NZ Sports Car Racing Championship, held at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, saw 6 current-generation Radicals running – meaning half the grid was made up of Radical Sportscars.
Reining Open Class champion Tim Edgell again demonstrated the incredible pace of the Albany ITM Radical SR10 taking out another 3 wins to extend his winning streak to 21. Again, Edgell had to work for all 3 wins with Dean McCarroll in that Juno matching Edgell's lap times throughout the weekend.
Sportscar racing newcomer Steve Hansen had a great debut in his Radical SR10, showing good pace and improving throughout the weekend as he got acquainted with the capabilities of the new car. Another newcomer was Chrissi Anderson in the Suzuki Hayabusa 1500-powered Radical SR3XX, in her first-ever car racing meeting. We couldn't wipe the smile off her face.
Rob Anderson, in the more powerful Radical SR10, enjoyed his third race meeting and held a good pace all weekend near the front of the pack. We also welcomed back Tony Hembrow in his Radical SR10 – after having a dabble last year, it was great to see him return again. Garth Piesse was back out on track in the thick of the action in the beautifully presented Radical RXC Spyder, unfortunately missing race 2 due to a fuel issue.
The NZ Sportscars series now takes a 2-month break, with the next round (subject to confirmation) set to be held at Manfield in late January with the TRS Championship.
